For I think that the boldness of Moses and of Elijah are not ever sufficient for such a great supplication. As he was entrusted with the whole world, and himself the father of all, so he [the priest] is attached to God to beg for the cessation of wars everywhere, for the tumults to cease, for peace, for prosperity, and asking too for the speedy change of all the evils that have privately and publicly afflicted each person. And he should pray for all who lack that they endure many things inasmuch he is the leader of those being led.

Ἐγὼ μὲν γὰρ καὶ τὴν Μωϋσέως καὶ τὴν Ἠλίου παρρησίαν οὐδέπω πρὸς τὴν τοσαύτην ἱκετηρίαν ἀρκεῖν ἡγοῦμαι. Καὶ γὰρ ὥσπερ τὸν ἅπαντα κόσμον πεπιστευμένος καὶ αὐτὸς ὢν ἁπάντων πατήρ, οὕτω πρόσεισι τῷ Θεῷ, δεόμενος τοὺς ἁπανταχοῦ πολέμους σβεσθῆναι, λυθῆναι τὰς ταραχάς, εἰρήνην, εὐετηρίαν, τῶν ἑκάστῳ κακῶν ἐπικειμένων καὶ ἰδίᾳ καὶ δημοσίᾳ, ταχεῖαν αἰτῶν ἀπαλλαγήν. Δεῖ δὲ πάντων καὶ δημοσίᾳ, ταχεῖαν αἰτῶν ἀπαλλαγήν. Δεῖ δὲ πάντων αὐτὸν ὑπὲρ ὧν δεῖται τοσοῦτο διαφέρειν ἐν ἅπασιν ὅσον τὸν προεστῶτα τῶν προστατευομένων εἰκός.
